thinking to myself, hey isn't this easy? you've got a smile that could light up this whole town. i haven't seen it in a while since he brought you down. cale counted down the final seconds of his psychology class in to himself, tapping a pencil against his desk and wriggling around in his seat. if it weren’t for his obviously mature build, you would have thought he were in eighth grade all over again, unable to focus in his class for want of being anywhere but behind that desk. of course, mentally cale was way beyond that of an eighth grader. the kid was intelligent, but had enough a.d.d. and energy to go around, causing him to fall behind in multiple classes when he was in high school. though as far as maturity went, cale was definitely lacking. he knew how to be serious when certain situations called for it, though for the most part he chose not to reveal that facet of his personality. cale wright was known by all of his friends as the bubbly one, always full of energy. and sitting behind this desk was not serving him well at the moment.
as soon as his prof released the class, cale bounced up and grabbed his bag, half walking and half jogging back towards his residence building. he scanned his mind for things to do, not wanting to waste a single moment of his free time. raegan. the name popped into his head before he’d even set foot outside of the psych building. cale had been forming a close bond with the girl for a few months now and honestly hadn’t been able to get her out of his mind since the day she’d first entered it. she was beautiful, there was no denying that. but there was just something about her that cale couldn’t quite figure out, and he liked that. girls that have an air of mystery were always of interest to the teen. generally cale wasn’t the type to date. he was always on the move, keeping busy to prevent boredom, and most girls he’d even had a slight interest in never could seem to keep up with him. but there was something that made him think that if he ever had a chance with her, he’d maybe consider slowing down his pace for a change, or that maybe she’d even match his own energy. but those were only thoughts. there was no way he was ever going to be more than friends with her. he’d put enough thought into the matter to solidify it into his mind. she was way too into this carter dude to give him a shot.
still half-running towards his home away from home, cale shook the thoughts of not being good enough for rae from his mind. he never had been one to dwell on the less happy things in life. always the optimist, he always believed getting yourself down on life was an emotion wasted. cale pulled out his cell phone and shot a quick text to rae to see if she wanted to meet him in the courtyard in front of his dorm to hang out for a while before he had to go to work that evening. even though rae didn’t attend the college, she often came by to hang out. just as he pressed send, cale arrived at the very spot he’d just invited her to. still half jogging, cale dropped his phone and book bag into the grass near the entrance of the courtyard and continued running in the open space. after a few strides, the brunette hurdled off the ground into a roundoff, landing, then using his strong thighs to push into a back flip. he landed without even the slightest wobble. since he was little, cale and both of his brothers had taken multiple forms of martial arts, as well as tumbling classes. of the three, cale was probably the biggest show off when it came to this particular talent. he tumbled anywhere and everywhere, not just to show off though, but also for the rush it gave him to defy gravity. this spot in front of his residence hall had become a favorite practice are for him. the soft cushion of the grass was a nice change from the hard mats at the gymnastics arena he and his brothers used to compete at. from beginning to endWHEN YOU HAVE A FRIEND BY YOUR SIDE THAT HELPS YOUCALE WRIGHT , 729 WORDS , CLOTHING , COMPLETE
it was her day off, so where could she be found? With Carter Hoffman of course. It was safe to say that Rae was in over her head with him. She wasn't in love with the guy, but she liked him a lot more than she had ever liked anyone else. He was able to keep her interested, which was a difficult feat. Normally, she got bored of the same old conversation and the attempts to bone her. Carter had made it deadly obvious that he respected her boundaries and except for a single time, he had never pushed them. She went to him. She told him when she was ready to move on. It was nice and it only made her respect for him rise. Today, they had simply be lounging around in his home, watching movies and eating popcorn and the like. It was nice to have a - she couldn't believe she could actually use this word - boyfriend to do those things with. It was even better because they weren't clinging off each other twenty-four seven. They were capable of taking a break from each other and seeing their own individual group of friends. It was the perfect balance and Rae was happy. She was genuinely happy with him, although there were some things about their relationship that bothered her. The age difference was a huge one. Of course it didn't bother Carter because he thought it was only six years, which really wasn't that terrible. Truth was, it was eight, which was terrible.
that was the last thing on her mind however. what her mind was focussed on was the text she had just received. It was from Cale. With a small smile, she replied saying she would meet him. They pair had formed a fast friendship and Rae could say he was easily one of the closest friends she had, after Abby and Carter of course. Rae was unaware of the crush he had on her, which was lucky because she would've felt very awkward about it. It was also unlucky as she would often talk about Carter to him, which had to make the poor boy uncomfortable. After a few minutes of begging, she managed to convince Carter to drive her to the campus so that she could go meet her friend. Upon arriving, she rushed off in the direction of the courtyard he was talking about. She would probaby insist that they move to his dorm as it was rather cold outside. It was worse because Rae had gotten used to being inside of Carter's warm house, snuggled up to his even warmer body. The sudden lack of warmth had her shivering. She was a trooper and could deal with it. She simply pulled her jacket tighter around her. Rae soon caught sight of her friend who was showing off. She laughed to herself, not really surprised. She had seen it before, but she still could not help but be a little impressed. "Show off!" she called out to him, laughter thick in her voice.
after gaining his attention, Rae moved to him, dropping her bag on the ground as she hugged him tightly. He was so warm that Rae didn't want to let go. However, she did, moving back and bending to pick up her bag. Once retrieved, she looked up at him with a large smile on her face. "Someone seems particularly hyperactive today. What was it? Caffeine? Energy drinks? Crack?" The last one was a joke of course and it showed by the sudden sparkle in her eyes. Standing here, she could not help but notice how attractive he looked, but she was able to overlook it. She had herself an attractive man, one she was lucky to have. That was what was important. "Aren't you cold?" she asked him, raising an eyebrow. It was November and he was strutting around in jeans and a t-shirt. Cale must have been crazy. Rae was dressed warmly and she was still freezing. She had a very low tolerance to cold. If she had known she would've been outside, she would have worn a sweater on top of her cardigan or something. If she had been smart, she would've taken the hoody Carter had offered her. Well, too late now. "How are you not sick?" It would remain one of life's many mysteries.

thinking to myself, hey isn't this easy? you've got a smile that could light up this whole town. i haven't seen it in a while since he brought you down. at first glance, there’s no way you would expect cale to be the shoulder to lean on, great listener, incredible friend that he was. all that energy and immaturity rolled into one made it seem like there was little room to sit and be serious and listen to his friends and truly care about what they were saying. but it was different with cale. he had enough personality for three people rolled into one. seems like a mess of a human being, but all of his friends could vouch that cale had just enough of every aspect to be considering an unbelievable friend.
being that person to talk to as far as his relationship with raegan went was proving to be a little more difficult than he could have expected. talking to her was almost as easy as talking to one of his brothers. there was nothing he felt as though he had to censor. any random though that popped into his head, he felt like he could just say it out loud and she’d know exactly what he was talking about, whether it made sense or not. and if she didn’t, he never felt like she was being judgmental for his sheer and utter randomnosities. and the same went for when she was telling him things about her or her work or whatever else. there were rarely ever lulls in conversation, and when they were.. they were comfortable silences. not those where you’re scrambling through your mind trying to find the right thing to say to plunge into the next topic of conversation. all this being said, there were those rare conversations where cale just felt like he might explode, but had to keep his cool. and all of these had one central subject; carter. rae had no idea about cale’s growing feelings towards her, so she obviously still felt like she could talk to him about anything and everything. and since her world was so wrapped around carter at the moment, he seemed to be coming up in conversation a lot lately. and for now, cale was just going to have to grin and bear it. he wasn’t about to mess up a really great friendship because he was jealous of carter. that would completely change how raegan saw him and would probably make things extremely awkward for the both of them. so for now the subject would be left alone, and he’d continue acting like he really wanted to hear how happy she was with carter.
it was only after a few passes of tumbling that he heard her familiar voice, full of motion and whirring around seeing as cale was currently upside down in the middle of an aerial. “show off,” he heard her call as his feet hit the ground. he spun around to face her with a wide grin on his face, just before throwing one more stationary back flip, almost challengingly, but of course still with a joking air.
he watched as raegan towards him and wrapped her arms around him tightly. he returned her hug just as tightly, loving every moment of her embrace entirely too much. he wished it would be easier. that she would either return these feelings to him or that he could just feel nothing but friendship. but of course it wasn’t like that. he let her go as she bent down to pick up her bag. ”all of the above,” he replied to her with a laugh. she knew good and well that he was almost always this energetic. even when they were just sitting around watching movies or talking or whatever else, there was always this spark of energy below the surface, usually hinted at by how fidgety he was when sitting still. it was only when she said something that he noticed that the air was a little chillier than usual. you’d think coming from florida, he would have had a harder time adjusting to the cold weather than most, but it completely wasn’t the case. cale had always been really hot natured, in fact his normal body temperature was a couple degrees above that of a normal person. when the weather would have to drop another ten or so degrees into the fourties and below before the boy would begin considering to put on a jacket before stepping outside. he simply shrugged in response and said ”not really,” with his trademark grin. ”just my nature i guess.” he then bent down to grab his bag and phone. ”you wanna head inside? warm up a little?” cale offered, starting towards the front door of the building.

from beginning to endWHEN YOU HAVE A FRIEND BY YOUR SIDE THAT HELPS YOUCALE WRIGHT , 769 WORDS , CLOTHING , COMPLETE ( I HOPE YOU DON'T MIND THAT I SPED THEM UP TO HIS DORM. I WANTED TO MOVE THINGS ALONG. LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT IT CHANGED )
instead of laughing at his joke, her jaw fell open, before she crossed her arms over her chest and pouted. "And you didn't share?" she held her stance for a few seconds before uncrossing her arms and laughing. It was nice to have a friend with whom she could joke around and tease and just be herself around. This is what Rae missed most about home. Her best friends had been the most amazing group of people she'd ever met. She cut contact with them after she left New Jersey. She didn't want to risk them telling her parents where she was and having them bring her home. Rae liked her independence too much and she could not go back to that household. It would just never been the same, not after what had happened. However, she missed being around people her own age and people knowing the truth about her. Sure, most people around here knew enough, but she couldn't talk about how great Jersey had been and about how great her friends were. Hell, no one around here even knew her real age. That was hard for her, as it meant she was not really close to anyone. The hardest part was having to act older all the time. That was probably why she liked Cale so much. She could just be herself and the pair could be immature and have a lot of laughs. It was comforting and with him, Rae felt truly comfortable being herself. She was not afraid he would judge her.
her her eyes rolled and she muttered "Of course." He was a right lucky bastard that he was naturally hot blooded. Sometimes, Rae was convinced that she was cold-blooded, like a reptile. She was so easily cold. It was bad enough in Jersey, but moving further up north did not particularly help her out. She would get used to it, she had no doubt. Until then, she had two of the greatest people she could meet to give her cuddles. Lucky for her, both Carter and Cale were extremely warm people. She was a very lucky lady with two very sexy men at her disposal. Bitch. "You're so lucky. You do realise that every time I'm outside with you, I'm going to be practically glued to your side. You'll be my portable heater." She nudged him with her hip and smiled cheekily at him. She meant her words in a strictly friendly matter of course. Cale was nothing more than a friend, with whom she occasionally cuddled with. It was simple and innocent and Rae meant nothing by it. If she knew what was going on she would have tried to keep her distance. Rae was considerate that way and was overly aware of what leading on someone could do ( she had girlfriends back in Jersey who told her the consequences ), and she was overly aware of her actions and how they could be interpretted. However, as she and Cale were strictly friends, she didn't think about it.
nodding, she followed him towards the door of the building. "Are you sure you can't read my mind?" She was sure he could sometimes. Some of the things that came out of his mouth were thoughts going through her mind at the split second he spoke them. It was defintiely creepy, but it did save them a lot of time when expressing ideas. Rae had been in the building enough times to know where they were going, so she fell in step with Cale, chatting easily on the way to his dorm. She had yet to mention Carter, but she was sure he would come up. She still had to tell Cale about the trip to New York he had recently taken her on and how much fun it had been. Rae had never been the New York, even though she had lived in Jersey for seventeen years of her life. Once in his dorm room, she immediately made her way to his bed and sat herself down. She dropped her bag at the foot of his bed, slipped her boots, leaving her in her cute little socks. She crossed her legs under her and turned to look at him, assuming he had joined her. "Now, you have to let me tell you all about our trip to New York." 'Our' was Rae and Carter of course. She was excited to let Cale hear all about it, plus she had to give him his present, which was stored in her bag at her feet. She hoped he would like what she had gotten him.

thinking to myself, hey isn't this easy? you've got a smile that could light up this whole town. i haven't seen it in a while since he brought you down. he laughed as raegan bumped him with her hip, not moving a single millimeter. even if rae charged at him with all her force, he was sure she wouldn’t be able to make him budge. compared to the tiny hundred something pound raegan, cale was a solid brick wall. the kid was absolutely ripped, and he took pride in that fact though not for reasons off vanity. he’d started his weight training years ago when he’d just started out with martial arts. but then he was just a little skinny stick of a boy. in the past year or so, he’d literally put on about thirty pounds of muscle. since he didn’t enter into many competitions anymore, he had to do something to keep him busy. normally training with his coach and brothers occupied most of his time and fulfilled his exercising needs, but now that he wasn’t doing all that, he did just pure weight training to fill the void. he’d often joked around with his friends by saying, ‘freshman fifteen? try freshman thirty.’
”whatever you say,” he said with that famous grin, pulling rae in tightly into a huge bear hug. he could literally feel the difference in body temperatures through her cardigan. it was kind of the effect of being really warm, then jumping into a cold lake or pond. or at least that’s what it reminded cale of. he had to tell himself in his mind not to hold on for too long, though he wanted to. he knew that it meant nothing to raegan other than a nice friendly gesture to keep her from freezing to death, but if it were up to cale they would have stayed like this until the sun went down. there had been a few times before that he could vividly remember where they’d cuddle watching a movie or on other days like this when they were hanging out in the courtyard. but those times hadn’t meant anything at all to her. and he had to keep convincing himself they meant nothing to him as well. cale let her go, but kept one arm around her shoulder as they began their walk into the residence hall, half to keep her warm and half just to have some kind of physical contact with her whatsoever.
laughing at her statement as he opened the door to the building for her, he couldn’t help but think ‘if only.’ then he’d see exactly what carter had that he didn’t. other than the fact that he was older than she was. almost too old though. so what, raegan was only a year older than him as far as he knew that that was nothing at all. he shrugged, a grin still masked over his face. ”you’re just really easy to read,” he said squeezing her shoulder playfully. it was true, he could usually tell what people were thinking or feeling. maybe not exacty, but a general idea. especially with raegan, probably because of the amount of time they spent together. but when it came to guys, cale was absolutely at a loss. he never had a clue what she was thinking or feeling about himself or carter for that matter. but when it came to carter, there usually wasn’t much she left up to him to speculate about. he always came up in conversation. and raegan always went into great detail the past twenty-four hours or however many that they’d been away from each other. updating almost everything that had happened. he was thankful she at least never even brought up their sex life. she knew that she could talk to him about anything, but that was absolutely where he drew the line.
once they were inside the room, cale dropped his belonging next to the door. he sighed a little at the first topic of conversation, she’d brought up. he’d at least hoped she could hold off on the subject of carter at least for a little while. but of course it was the first thing that came up. ”well, let’s hear it,” he said, trying not to sound too excited but also trying not to sound like he didn’t care about hearing what was important to her. ”do you want anything to drink?” he said, stepping over to the mini kitchen area and pulling out some hot chocolate mix for himself. he knew he’d have to keep himself busy to prevent himself from being affected too much by the topic at hand. this way he could keep his hands busy and his eye contact indirect, at least for the time being while he let it all sink in. from beginning to endWHEN YOU HAVE A FRIEND BY YOUR SIDE THAT HELPS YOUCALE WRIGHT , 756 WORDS , CLOTHING , COMPLETE
simply glaring at him, she quickly bumped into his side again. She was playing with him, which is why there was still a gleam in her eyes. They two were close enough to constantly make these kinds of jokes. They weren't at all serious with each other, or at least she wasn't serious with him. It was the benefits of having an immature friendship that meant a lot to each of them. " You're just as easy to read," she said back to him, knowing it was sometimes true. She knew what he was thinking sometimes, but other times she didn't get it at all. That was a minute detail though. She was comfortable against his warm body. Them walking together with Cale's arm over her shoulders meant nothing to her. It was a friendly gesture on his part to keep her warm, nothing more. That was how she chose to interpret it anyway. If she were more attentive and put all the hints together, she probably could've figured out that there was more between them than just a strong friendship. Other people had seen it and hinted at it by asking of the pair were together. Each other, Rae had just laugehd, which probably hurt Cale. She just thought the idea was absurd, but that was likely because she was too caught up in Carter. He was really the first person who had made his attraction to her obvious and that made her like him even more. without really trying, Carter had weasled his way into her life and she liked it. Rae was intrigued by him and how he could be so understanding. It wasn't something she was used to. She was used to being pushed and pressured. Having someone willing to move at her pace was overwhelming. She was desperate to tell this to Cale in hopes that this would make Cale like Carter more. Rae wasn't stupid. She could see the pair didn't get along. 'Why?' was the question she needed to ask herself. She was desperate to ask Cale, but she had a feeling it was a topic that was better to be avoided. Instead, she just readied herself to talk about her trip. However, he had gotten up, which had disappointed her slightly. She pushed it aside. " Sure. Whatever you're having." She looked over at him and smiled, before beginning to speak. " It was amazing. I just didn't expect it to be that... big in person, you know?" That sounded funny, even to her. She giggled at herself and launched into tales of their hotel room, the shopping she had done and the places Carter had taken her. " The Statue of Liberty is so pretty. I mean, I always thought it was a big ugly thing, to be honest, but it was majestic." It continued to comments such as that one thrown in every once and a while. once finished her story, she sighed. She wanted to go back. The city was magnificant and Rae could easily say that she was in love with the hustle and bustle of the city, like a small country of it's own. She had become overwhelmed but in a good way. " I got you something," she said to him with a cheeky grin. She had a feeling he would like that. What kind of person didn't like getting gifts? She lay on her stomach on his bed, reaching down to get her back. She pulled it up onto the bed and sat up. Opening her bag, she rummaged through it, looking for his gift. Finally, she pulled out a sweatshirt. She held it up so that he could inspect it. After he'd had the chance to gaze at it, she lay it down on the bed next to her. " I thought you'd like it and that maybe if I got you the gift, it'd tempt you to rug up more often." She winked at him and giggled. It wasn't anything big, but she was hoping that he would like it. Rae was one who thought it was the small gestures that meant the most and she was hoping that Cale would agree with her. It meant more, or it would if she told him this, that the sweatshirt was the only thing she had spent her own money on. For the duration of the trip, Carter had paid for everything, including the clothing she had bought for herself. She had managed to convince Carter to let her pay for the sweatshirt which was now on Cale's bed.

thinking to myself, hey isn't this easy? you've got a smile that could light up this whole town. i haven't seen it in a while since he brought you down. one thing cale absolutely loved about rae was the quick humor between the two of them. it would have been hard for the two of them to be friends if they couldn’t keep up with each other. the thing he loved about his friends was that they never took him too seriously. it sounded lame now that he was thinking about it, but it was best this way. if he ever slipped up with how he felt about raegan, she would just take it as a joke, as she always did. it’d happened before and he was sure it would happen again. he’d hate for the two of them to loose the awesome friendship they had because he was crushing on her. okay, it was a little more serious than a simple crush. but he had to tell himself it was nothing for their friendships sake. for her sake. cale’s laugh came out as a kind of incredulous snort. ”yeah, okay,” he said. he knew it was true that sometimes, she knew exactly what he was thinking. but it was the big picture she was completely missing. and he was kind of glad for that fact. sure, she was a bright girl but he was definitely glad she had never picked up on all of the clues. and there were definitely many of them. she was always the first one he called to hang out. the way he was literally attached at her hip every time they were near each other. the glint in the teen’s eyes when he looked at her. the fact he couldn’t keep a smile off his face when he was with her, no matter how hard he tried. that is, of course, as long as carter was kept out of conversation. he was sure he could have made it easier on himself by not giving in to the temptations to act the way he did around her. but it was hard. he honestly didn’t know how to be friends with her in any other way.
cale reached into the fridge and pulled out the carton of milk, pouring two mugs to heat up for the two of them. he stuck them in the microwave and punched in the numbers. there had to be something he could busy himself with while they were heating up. he rummaged around through the drawers, fumbling for the perfect spoon to stir the mix in once it was time. he knew it was stupid, and that she’d probably pick up on him being so fidgety but he was almost positive she would be able to guess why. every time carter came up in conversation, he tried his hardest to sound happy for her. and he was. sort of. he was happy that she was so happy. but he knew that rae could be happier with her. he knew her better than carter did. even though she probably wouldn’t associate this particular spell of making himself busy with the conversation on carter, he knew she’d at least noticed his dislike for the suitor. it was just one of those topics neither of them chose to bring up. cale was dying to say something to her, but he just couldn’t bring himself to do it. it’d go one of two ways. she’d admit she felt for him the way he felt for her and would drop carter like the bad habit he was. or she become ridiculously uncomfortable with being around him anymore and would stop spending time with him whatsoever. he couldn’t risk the latter.
opening the microwave just before time ran out, cale grabbed the hot mugs, shaking his hands in slight pain. ”aghh,” he exclaimed, grumbling a little under his breath. he rubbed his hands together and nodded a bit, listening to her tales about her trip. every time carter’s name was mentioned, he tried his best to ignore the name. cale stirred in the hot chocolate powder, listening to her talk about the statue of liberty. this was probably the quietest he’d ever been around the beatufiul brunette. he was never one to be speechless, or flustered, or anything of the sort. but just the idea of carter taking her on a trip to new york was enough to shut him up for a while.
he wrapped the mugs in towels so neither of them burned their hands, or at least so he wouldn’t burn himself again, and brought them over to her. ”it sounds great, rae,” he said, handing her one of the cups and sitting on the bed with her. he grumbled a little when she said she’d brought him something back from the trip. he hated when friends did that. bringing him things when he didn’t have anything to give back in return. but he grinned nonetheless, a little excited that she’d thought about him while she was on a trip with him. he smiled, looking at the sweatshirt. it was the perfect present. ”thanks rae, it’s great. really.” it seemed like today was just one of those days when he wouldn’t know quite what to say to her.
