WORD COUNT: NINE FOUR ONE - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The weekend had gone far too slowly for Mister Franklin’s liking and Alex was glad to be on his way home. The drive wasn’t that long but it was long enough to get him a wee bit drowsy but he was able to make it through without too much of a problem. With the music blasting and the heat on low he drove down the highway of Connecticut to his home in New Haven, thoughts consuming his mind as he did so. They were thoughts about his drill weekend, the possibility of being sent to Iraq, the issues his best friend was going through with being pregnant, her ass of a boyfriend, his daughter and last but not least the girl whom he never thought he would lay eyes on again, Dallas. It was hard to believe that the young woman had once been such a huge part of his life and then she was gone just like that. Alex didn’t really know what to think about her being back and if he should even put much thought into the reasoning. She said she was back because she missed home but was there any possibility at all that she missed him? Alex was hoping that perhaps that was part of the reasoning but at the same time he really hoped that it wasn’t, the way that his mind was working right now was giving him a headache just trying to make heads or tails of his thoughts. The young soldier was trying to figure out what exactly having Dallas back in his life meant. Did she want another chance with him? Did she want to work things out or was she here simply to show him what he had missed out on long ago when he left her for Malika?
Malika was his best friend, the girl that he trusted with everything and at that point in time she had been the one whom was pregnant with his child, he couldn’t just leave her like that and he refused to. Brooke was his responsibility too and he wasn’t just going to walk out and leave Malika to handle it all on her own. Now that it was over four years later, if given the choice, Alex would never go back and change anything that he had done. He was happy where he was now and was glad to be the father of Brooke. Yes, it had been really hard at times, especially when it came to having enough money to take care of her but the two of them – meaning Malika and himself – had made it all work out. Alex was primary care giver of the young girl but he didn’t mind, he worked from his home seeing how the garage was attached to it and once a month he had to go to drill with his reserves unit. This month instead of his parents watching the young girl for him Dallas had offered to and that was something that he was very grateful for. He kind of hated to leave Brooke with his parents all the time and even though they didn’t seem to mind it he did. This month he refused to bring her there when he had drill though and even though they had argued with him about how it didn’t bother them he didn’t want to burden them with Brooke this month. That’s where Dallas came into play, Alex hadn’t even asked her to watch Brooke, she had offered and Alex had thought it would be good for his daughter to get to know one of his other best friends plus get some time with a female who wasn’t related to her. Alex had no problems with Dallas taking care of Brooke; he knew that his daughter would be in good hands.
When Alex pulled into the apartment complex parking lot where Dallas lived he glanced down at the clock on the dashboard and let out a sigh, realizing the time. It was already well past nine at night which meant that Brooke was sleeping and that he was an hour later than the time he told her he would arrive at. Damn traffic had held him up and because of that he was late and wouldn’t be able to see or hang out with Brooke tonight. Thinking of that another sigh escaped his lips as he climbed out of his Ford Mustang and he tossed his sunglasses that had been hanging from his shirt onto the passenger’s seat before slamming the car door behind him. Alex took an opportunity to stretch out his legs after the two hour drive and he ran his hands over his face before making his way toward where Dallas lived. Upon reaching the front door he buzzed up to her apartment and waited for the click of the door to sound before he stepped in then bounded up the stairs to the second floor where Dallas’ apartment was. Reaching the door he knocked on it quietly and waited for her to answer. Once the door was opened he stepped inside the door and shut it slowly behind him before lifting his gaze up to look at his friend. “Hey Dal.
” He spoke up, a small smile on his face as he let his hazel eyes scan over her features for a few brief moments. “ How was Brooke this weekend?” He asked curiously, of course that would be the first question out of his mouth, he cared a lot about his daughter and it was obvious by not only his tone of voice but the look of concern that crossed his face.[/blockquote]

The weekend went by just the opposite for Dallas. Before she knew it her and Brooke were racing around cleaning up the place before Alex came home that night. Dallas enjoyed having Brooke for the weekend. Brooke was no trouble at all for Dallas. Except in the very beginning when Brooke wondered why it was Dallas watching her and not her usual babysitters. But it was soon forgotten when Dallas brought her to the kitchen to bake some cookies. Dallas definitely knew her way into a kids heart. It was so much easier than winning a way into Alex's heart though. But maybe taking care of his kid would help out a bit. It wasn't going to bad either, Dallas decided once she had tucked Brooke into bed. Alex had trusted her to watch over Brooke that weekend. And they'd been hanging out more than just a few times. All of which she took as a good sign. Dallas threw a few items underneath the bed when she heard the buzz that announced Alex was home. She double checked on Brooke before stepping out and ringing him and waiting to open the door for him. She grinned up at him and shut the door once he stepped inside the apartment. She shrugged, "She was good. She didn't want to go to bed because she wanted to see you... but I promised her that you'd have fresh pancakes for her in the morning when she woke up if she went to bed on time." For once, she added to herself. She grinned a bit more knowing that Alex, being the type of person he was now, would most likely have those pancakes cooked and ready for Brooke in the morning, even if he was crawling from being so tired. She patted his shoulder, "I'll help you if you want." She assured, doubting that she'd even be up before Brooke. Why did kids always get up so early anyway?
It didn't even faze her when he asked about his daughter and not her. She was fine, since she was still standing with a smile on her face. Plus helping her mother at the daycare gave the basics about babysitting a kid. Brooke hadn't been like the ones her mother took care of, Brooke was actually more behaved than them, if that counted for anything. Dallas let her eyes roam over the whole of Alex, noting happily that he was in uniform. Damn, if he didn't look good. Dallas bit down on her lip a little before turning her attention else where and plopping herself down on the couch. There was evidence of brooke having been there only moments before -- she had a cup of juice on the table and half eaten cereal that had yet to get soggy. Hopefully he didn't notice that detail since Dallas had been given specific orders by the mister Army man that Brooke was to be in bed and tucked away by a certain time. Dallas patted the spot beside her for Alex to claim and pulled her knees up to her chest, "We spent a lot of the weekend just watching the same movie over and over." It was always a wonder how a kid could have the most interest in one thing and have the shortest attention span with another. At least her weekend didn't have a dull moment, "So, what'd you do all weekend..?" It probably wasn't even that interesting, at least to Dallas it wouldn't be that interesting. And she wanted to head to bed probably just as much as Alex did but wasn't going to be the first one to say so. She curled up against him, stifling a small yawn and stretching out across the couch.
Dallas would admit that she missed him. And he was the reason she was back, the reason she was ever really here. Then again, she'd pretty much tell him anything he wanted to hear. She reached over and planted a kiss on his cheek, "I'm glad you're home." She whispered, smiling up at him before ducking her head back down and curling up once again.

LOCATION: ALEX'S APARTMENT OUTFIT: HERE . WORD COUNT: FIVE SEVEN FIVE - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The one thing that Alex hated about the Army Reserves drill weekends he had to go to was that he had to be away from his daughter for the entire weekend. That was one thing he hated more than anything even if he knew that she was in good hands. It was just that Brooke was his little girl and probably one of his best friends even though she was so small. Alex loved that girl with everything within him and leaving her for short or long periods of time always bothered him. Why he wasn’t too sure but maybe it was just because he was scared that something would happen to her if he were not around. At her words Alex chuckled a little bit and shook his head as his fingers went to the buttons on his jacket and he slowly unbuttoned them. “You’ve learned well. Bribe that child with pancakes and she’ll listen to anything.
” Alex said with a smile. He glanced past Dallas and excused himself for a moment so that he could sneak back to Brooke’s room and he slid inside quietly and moved to her bedside. Alex smiled as he watched his little girl sleep and leaned down to press his lips to her forehead before covering the blonde angel over and leaving the room, closing the door on his way out before going back into the living room where he could talk with Dallas. It wasn’t that Alex didn’t trust her when she said Brooke was okay, he just had to see for himself, call him a worried father if you might but in all honesty the thought of Brooke being hurt was scarier for him then the possibility of being deployed to Iraq. Once he moved back to the living room and saw her sitting down already and the pat to the couch beside her caused him to chuckle a bit as he slid his jacket off and tossed it over a nearby chair. He then sat down on that chair so that he could unlace his boots and after sliding those off as well Alex moved them to the side before moving to take a seat beside his friend. “ Let me guess, The Lion King?” Alex asked curiously, bringing his hand up to his face and rubbing over the small amount of stubble that was growing from the day. When she questioned how his weekend was the young soldier shrugged as he leaned back on the couch, wrapping his arm around her when she cuddled against his body. “ A lot of guard duty mainly. We had some obstacle courses and spent a lot of time at the shooting range.” The man spoke up, leaning his head back to rest on the back of the couch. He was glad to be home and comfortable just where he was. It was peaceful here and he knew that early tomorrow morning he would be woken up to make his daughter those pancakes. That brought another thought to his mind and he turned his head to look at Dallas and smirked slightly. “ You said you’d help with the pancakes tomorrow, does that mean that you plan on staying the night? He questioned, quirking his eyebrow slightly. A few moments passed before he felt her lips upon his cheek and another smile crossed his face as he turned his head to the side and kissed the top of her head. “ Miss me?”[/blockquote]
