THE music sounded in elliot’s ears, her arms pumping along her sides as she rang, ipod pumping out music as she dashed through new haven. her feet hit the sidewalk rhythmically, her heart hammering to keep up with her pace, lungs burning. she knew it was time to take a break, but ellie had the bad habit of never really knowing how to stop. when she was lost in the moment, she just let herself go and often ended up more exhausted than she’d planned to be. she could see the early morning light filtering over the city, knowing it was a little bit early to expect there to be any real life. seven in the morning on a saturday morning was too early to expect people to be awake and coherent, but ellie had always been an early riser. it helped that she’d been awake since five, unable to force herself to go back to sleep. she had no idea why she was so restless, but it didn’t please her at all. she liked to sleep, even if it was only until eight in the morning, so her inability to sleep deeply was driving her quite up the wall. that was how she found herself pounding along the sidewalks of new haven, wearing what seemed to be completely inappropriate clothing for the cold weather. her running shorts barely covered the skin of her thighs, though the jacket resting over the top of her body was more than enough to keep generating heat. brown locks were pulled out of her face as she ran, her face set in grim determination. she was hoping to make it to new haven green before she passed out, and she wasn’t used to not getting the things she wanted. she noticed the burning sensation in her chest, but she didn’t care. she was only three blocks from her destination and she wasn’t ready to give up. she dug in, pushing herself forward and onward.
AS she rounded the corner to new haven green, she stumbled slightly, cursing softly as she caught herself and kept running, intending to reach the fountain in the center. she slowed as she reached it, taking a minute to jog slowly around the outside of the fountain to cool down before she let herself sit, hands behind her head so her lungs could grapple for much needed oxygen. she smiled to herself as she looked at the snow covered ground, glad to know she’d managed to achieve what she’d set out to do. she was ambitious ad relentless, which meant she was never very happy when she didn’t do exactly what she set out to do. she felt the cold air brush her cheeks, making her shiver slightly, but she didn’t mind. the run had warmth running through her body and as long as she didn’t stand still for too long, she’d have no reason to suddenly be cold. as she felt her breathe slow down, she grabbed her ipod from it’s holster on her arm, flicking through songs before choosing one that she liked. she meant to stand up and go on, but there was something peaceful about the snow capped grass and the perpetually running water of the fountain. she stuck her finger in the water, wincing at the temperature and cradling her hand to warm it up. adjusting where she sat, she leaned forward to retie her shoe, carefully pulling the knots as tight as they would go, not wanting to fall and make a fool of herself in front of anyone – especially anyone that she knew in new haven. the bright side of having come to college as an international student was that no one knew her, and she could show off any personality she wanted. the down side was that all embarrassing moments would be recorded in their minds and she didn’t have the history to make them realize that composure was her number one goal, and she rarely lost it.
SHE found her thoughts drifting to her family, making her smile. true, her family members were quite eccentric and known for shouting at each other in portugese and spanish, but the amount of love they showed each other, was something that astounded her. she loved her brothers more than anything on the planet and it made her glad to know that her eldest brother was in boston with her, since her parents were convinced she wasn’t safe on her own. she’d visited them over the summer and had spent two months there, speaking her native language every day and being the center of many integral discussions. the only downside to her family was their depth in the south american politics, especially that of brazil. she knew that being their only daughter made her a bartering chip when it came to working out deals with leaders of other countries and it worried her, though she knew better than to show it. she was expected to accept the decisions of her parents without questioning them or arguing. she was supposed to be honored that she was doing something to help her country. she’d grown up with that mindset, but coming to boston had made her question whether those thoughts were the right kind. she blamed her boyfriend for making her think anything else. having him around made her want a future of her own, and she dreaded the introduction of someone to her parents. it was the sole reason she’d left him in new haven when she’d gone to brazil for the summer – she’d wanted to avoid bloodshed. she sighed at the thought of it, brushing a single strand of hair out of her eyes as she lay on the edge of the fountain, her chest still moving up and down fast to accommodate her slowing heart rate. she couldn’t sit still for long, but she knew that she wanted to enjoy this moment. she needed a moment every now and then. this was one of those moments, in the peaceful morning sun.TAGGED FOR , anyone at all. ooh girl shock me like an electric eelTURN ME ON WITH YOUR ELECTRIC FEEL___________________________________ TAGGED FOR ZAZU/ELLIOT. THIS POST IS INCOMPLETE WITH A RESOUNDING 1,116 WORDS. JAMES IS LOOKING MIGHTY DELICIOUS TODAY. THIS TEMPLATE WAS MADE BY THE PWNFUL ERICA. OH HEY LISTEN UP, I GOT SHIT TO SAY MY MUSE IS COMING BACK. WOOO. ____________________________________
The cold weather was definitely no stranger to James. He was from New York after all. It was cold most of the time there. James quite liked the cold too. It made more since to James more so than heat because when you’re cold, you can just layer on as many articles of clothing as you want. There’s only so much you can do when it’s extremely hot outside. Sure, you can take some clothes off but once you’re butt naked and you’re still feeling the heat, then what can you do? Staying home wasn’t much of an option because that definitely got boring after a while. When it’s cold, James could still go outside and have a way to keep himself comfortable. Plus, the snow was always enticing to James. Ever since he was a little kid, snow has just amazed him. He used to play in it every chance he got which was very often. But he always played alone or with other friends his age. Never did he have any sort of “bonding” time with his father. His dad was always too busy or on some business trip. This never made for good Christmas memories. James couldn’t remember a single Christmas that he spent with his father where his dad wasn’t doing work in his study all day, drunk, or on a business trip. So James’ Christmas experiences consisted mostly of sitting at home alone or sometimes when his dad remembered to hire one, with a babysitter or nanny. Other times, mostly when James was a little older, James would have to lock himself in his room when his dad decided to drink a little too much. When his dad drank a lot, it often resulted in violence and too many times had that violence been directed towards James. So locking himself in his room was the only thing James could do for a while, until he was able to defend himself.
Not only did being alone during Christmas suck, but James rarely got any presents. That totally ruined the idea of “Santa Claus” for him. James didn’t get presents and he didn’t get coal so he knew that he wasn’t on the “naughty list”. The only option left was that Santa wasn’t real and that his dad was just a drunk asshole. Now that James was out of the house and just waiting for his dad to just step down or keel over dead (he was hoping it would happen soon, or else James would have to kill him himself. Not really, but you get the point. His father was severely hated.), James didn’t ever do anything special for Christmas. There would be no decorations on his mansion, no Christmas tree in the living room, and no family traditions to carry out. He would usually find a good Christmas party to go to, party hard, go home and pass out on the couch. Fun, right? Well, James thought so and that’s all that mattered. Though he did wish he had some sort of family to celebrate with. Simply baking Christmas cookies with someone sounded better than passing out from his alcohol intake. But of course, he would never admit that therefore, no baking for James.
So on this fine December morning, James got up extra early (mostly because he actually didn’t go out the previous night and wasn’t suffering from a hangover) to go to the gym. Usually even if he did have a hangover, James would go to the gym anyway because well, he was a mixed martial artist and had to keep up his strength. But today, since he had nothing holding him back from getting up around six in the morning, he decided to go for it. Plus it was always great waking up to a fresh layer of snow on the ground. It was much too early for anyone to be up, so the snow had hardly been touched. James ran for half an hour on the treadmill, beat up a few punching bags, lifted a few weights for leg strengthening, and called it quits. It took about an hour for him to work out, which he was happy about because seven o’clock was usually the time people started arriving at the gym. James was able to make it out of there by five after seven, simply because he threw on some sweats over the shorts and cut off t-shirt he had worked out in instead of changing back into his jeans and stuff. It wasn’t until James got outside that he deemed it a dumb idea to not have taken his car to the gym because now he had to walk home. Not only was it cold, but James was still slightly sweaty, which made his body even colder. James sighed, his breath visibly flowing from his mouth in tiny vapors. He draped his duffle bag over his shoulder so the strap lay across his chest and the bag rested slightly behind him on his hip. James soon found himself cutting across New Haven Green as his eyes lifted from the ground. He lifted his hood over his head as a shiver ran up his spine. Next time he’d have to either bring more clothes or just drive because this was definitely not a pleasant experience.
James approached the fountain at the center of New Haven Green, his feet kicking up small clumps of snow as he walked. He wasn’t particularly looking for any specific thing, his eyes just wandered aimlessly around the large span of snow covered grass. They soon landed on a girl laying out on the edge of the fountain. James didn’t know the girl too well, but he did recognize her from the online chat room. They’ve shared a few small, seemingly pointless conversations but nothing special. That didn’t stop him from approaching her though because one, James liked talking to people (women especially, even if they had boyfriends), and she was wearing shorts. James couldn’t let her go without some snide comment about how it was too cold to be wearing such a thing. Hm…How mad would you be if I pushed you into that fountain? he pondered as he stood over her, a small smirk on your face. I mean, it probably would be less traumatic if you were wearing clothes, but still… he added. His head cocked slightly as he eyed the extremely short shorts that adorned her legs. She had pretty nice legs, he'd give her that much. But really, who wore shorts during the winter? It would be understandable during the fall, especially since she seemed to be recovering from a rigorous jog, but it's much too cold during the winter.
